POSITION SUMMARY: The Behavioral Health Assistant functions as a vital part of the Behavioral Health Team who offers client care for individuals that have behavioral health needs. The Behavioral Health Assistant demonstrates competency in understanding and meeting the needs of the child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric psychiatric population. The Behavioral Health Assistant maintains the provider-patient schedules, checks in, takes vital signs, and rooms patients for their clinic visits. They coordinate services with primary care providers, both within and external to the clinic. They assist clients in accessing community resources. The Behavioral Health Assistant promotes patients’ behavioral health by maintaining the day-to-day operation of the patient care area, assisting support staff, working with the clinic provider to assure physical and psychological support for patients at the level for which the Behavioral Assistant has been trained and certified.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent education required.
  2. Associate degree preferred; Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
  3. One year minimum experience in Behavioral Health or Social Work environment.
  4. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required.
  5. Demonstrated experience skill levels for Behavioral Assistant competencies must be accounted for consistently. (Please see Skills Validation Behavioral Assistants).
  6. Demonstrated competencies in caring for all age groups including newborns, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
  7. Bilingual preferred and may be required based on patient needs.
  8. Fingerprint Clearance through DPS required.
